Kvarner Bay

The majesty of the Adriatic

The Kvarner Bay sits at the foot of the mountain Ucka approximately 1500m high and separates the regions of Istria in the north, from Dalmatia in the south. The area has always been of great importance for Croatia: here we find the important industrial centre Rijeka, as well as it being the point for the fastest connection to the mainland by sea.

IIn Rijeka we find with the National Park Risnjak one of the many natural wonders of Croatia. At the coast, the Kvarner bay shows its whole strength: here lie with Cres and Krk the largest islands of the country! If you love nature and diversity, here you will find tranquillity: The island of Krk is known for its untouched territory of natural beauty; also the best wine-growing regions in Croatia, with more animal and plant species than in the whole of the UK!

The special vegetation of the region, is very much influenced by the natural spectacle of the Velebit mountain range. This mountainous range, partly slopes down to the coast, brings together the moderate air of the inland and the warm waters of the Adriatic, forming its unique flora and fauna. In the north is the "National Park Northern Velebit" and in the more remote area of country, the most famous National Park, "Plitivcer Lakes". This unique natural spectacle of waterfalls and crystal-clear lakes attracts millions of visitors every year and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Definitely a must for every Croatian holiday!

The island of Losinj, Rab and Pag are among the attractions of the Kvarner Bay. On Losinj, which is also called the "island of scents and aromas", you will find many medicinal herbs as well as outstanding, Mediterranean cuisine!

The island of Rab is known for its beautiful sandy beaches and offers record-breaking 2,500 hours of sunshine a year! A beach holiday here is exceptional. Just a few minutes away is the island of Pag, well-known for its culinary treasures and special entertainment: there is the pagan salt, the "gold" of Croatia - and on the other hand the "Paški sir", a special sheep's cheese whose taste is enriched with the flavours of the island - a real treat! In recent years, the island has also become a popular destination for young people from all over the world. At the "Zrce Beach" in Novalja, the nights of the summer are turned into day: the most famous DJs and artists of the world now appear here!
